HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

Happy New Year to all our customers & indeed anyone reading this.
Since it was so cold over the Christmas holidays, apart from visiting family on 25th, I've mostly been pottering about inside during my time off, catching up on the type of little jobs that usually get put off because I've 'got work to do'. One such project was this little glass-fronted cabinet which I've been intending to paint out for around 2 years.
In our last house it held books but here I've used it for a collection of little treasured bits & bobs. Its small size means it fits under the sloping ceiling in my bedroom but the plain brown interior was a bit boring.
I found a can of Laura Ashley 'eau de nil' eggshell in the shed, which was just what I wanted to make the colours of my shell boxes & assorted treasures stand out. The colour also picks up some of the shades in the lovely 1920s embroidered silk robe hanging on a door nearby (now quite shattered & too fragile to actually wear but still wonderful).

None of these 'treasures' are actually very valuable in monetary terms; a paper rose & a painted egg etc, but they just all appeal to me for one reason or another & the over-all effect of displaying a lot of little things you really love, together, seems to increase the impact.

This little dog reminds me of our lovely old lurcher, Meg (New Year's Resolution: get a dog!). The beaded purse was given to me by an elderly neighbour who had taken it to her first dance in the 1930s.

I've had this charming little Victorian clip in the shape of a hand for a while & finally got around to hanging it up, to hold a tiny basket I've had since I was a child.
A couple of 'new' purchases are a pretty piece of antique ribbonwork embroidery, now made into a cushion...

& this beautiful old glove box, also decorated with embroidery, which I particularly love because of its bee motif in the centre. Note the tiny bead eyes!

Anyway, back to work now & hopefully finding lots of lovely vintage treasures for other people's houses...!
